Southampton School Budget Vote Passes With Ease

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The votes are in: Residents headed to the polls Tuesday to weigh in on the proposed 2024 to 2025 Southampton Union Free School District budget and passed the measure by a wide margin of 617 to 269.

A proposition to expend funds from the 2017 10-year capital reserve fund passed 725 to 158. Also, a proposition to expend funds from the Southampton bus fleet replacement capital reserve fund passed 700 to 162. Another proposition, to expend funds from the Southampton capital reserve for technology equipment fund, passed 672 to 200. A proposition authorizing the sale of property located at 1023 Majors Path in Southampton passed 700 to 168. Propositions for the Southampotn African American Museum, Southampton Historical Museum Parrish Art Museum, and Southampton Youth Association also passed handily.

The proposed budget of 79,937,201 reflects a 3.95 percent spending increase and 3.54 percent tax levy increase, within the district’s tax-cap limit.

Three Board of Education candidates ran for two open seats, including incumbent James McKenna, Robert Zachary Epley and Ruth B. White-Dunne. Epley received 557 votes, White-Dunne received 633, and McKenna garnered 347.
