Sweet Seal Pup, Octopus, Set For Release In Hampton Bays Thursday

Octopus was found entangled in crab pot netting at the end of Grant Avenue East in Babylon, the New York Marine Rescue Center says.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A sweet seal pup is set to find her way home on Thursday.

According to the Marine Rescue Center, a seal release will take place on Thursday at Tiana Beach in Hampton Bays at promptly 6 p.m.

The NYMRC will be releasing Octopus, a female gray seal pup who was admitted to NYMRC's hospital in Riverhead on May 6 due to entanglement in crab pot netting at the end of Grant Ave East in Babylon, representatives said.

During rehabilitation, Octopus was given antibiotics and topical treatments for neck lacerations due to her entanglement.

Currently, NYMRC said: "Octopus is fully recovered and is currently eating 7 pounds of fish daily! Come join us in sending Octopus home. We hope to 'sea' you there!"
