Huntersville Middle School Needs Votes For International Award

J.M Alexander Middle School is one of 41 teams internationally competing for the "Future City" competition which designs waste-free cities.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A Huntersville middle school is competing in an international competition to create a hypothetical "waste-free" city.

It's called the Future City Competition, and each entrant has to essentially invent a city. The contest involves building models, researching, designing and presenting their cities to judges internationally.

The team at JM Alexander IB Middle School called their city "Terra Limpa" and in their own words, "'Terra Limpa' is a waste-free, sustainable, nature centered city. Our innovative solutions like agro-voltaic islands, themed complete neighborhoods with “ecoscrapers” surrounding food producing biospheres, machine learning auto-sort system, biobricks and MOW boats ensure zero waste. We have a vibrant culture, the last coral reefs left for SCUBA diving, a world-class university and sports teams."
