Ohio Police Officer Shot In Head; Suspect Killed During Shootout

LEBANON, OH — A Clearcreek Township police officer was shot in the head while responding to a domestic violence call Tuesday, and the suspect was killed in a shootout, police said.

Two police officers were called Tuesday night to a home on the 5000 block of state Route 48 for a report that a man rammed an ATV into his wife’s car, township Police Chief John Terrill told reporters.

The husband shot an officer in the head. A female officer shot and killed the husband.

The wounded officer, whose name wasn't immediately released, was flown to Miami Valley Hospital where he was in critical, but stable, condition in the intensive care unit. He was a 14-year veteran of the force, Terrill said.

The officer was responsive and is breathing on his own, but was sedated and unable to communicate, the Dayton Daily News reported. The female officer was unharmed.

The Warren County Coroner’s Office identified the suspect as 65-year-old Mark Evers.

Clearcreek Township is about 17 miles south of Dayton in Warren County.

The officer-involved shooting marked the first for the force since it's founding in 1975.
