Dems Hold Large Lead In Abington School Board, But Many More Votes To Tally

ABINGTON, PA — Democrats held a commanding lead in the Abington School Board race heading into the midnight hour late Tuesday, but there remain many votes left to tally.

The vote totals in the favor of the left also include all of the mail-in ballots, which are typically heavily Democratic. So it stands to reason that the GOP could make some dent in the gap.

Here's where things stood late Tuesday with 25 of 39 of the township's precincts reporting:

• Shameeka Browne: 9,202
• Rachel Hartman: 9,368
• Elizabeth Eisenhart: 9,214
• Cathy Spaulding: 8,902

Republicans

• Joseph Rooney: 3,896
• Paul Morse: 3,702
• RoseAnn McKenry: 3,696
• Sonora Rooney: 3,476
• Arthur Baehr: 3,524

9:14 p.m.

Early mail-in ballots, largely Democratic, have been tabulated, along with 2 of the county's 45 precincts. Here's the first glance at results in Abington, with 71,790 of the county's 73,277 mail-in ballots counted.

The presidential election is a year away, but the results of Tuesday night's local races in the Abington area and across Pennsylvania will play a key role in the state's future. They'll also important insight into the political landscape of a swing state that could determine the balance of power in the executive and legislative branches next fall.

Results will be considered unofficial until all votes, including those cast via mail and in ballot drop boxes, have been counted.

With an increase in voting by mail, official results likely won't be available for a few days.
