POWER&reg; was established in 2010 to directly address the needs of the community, deploying initiatives such as Project F.E.E.D.&reg; (Friends Ensuring Every Dinner), Project Warmth&reg;, and iLearn&reg; under a 501(c)(3) sponsorship. On September 10, 2018, POWER&reg; obtained its 501(c)(3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service. Thereafter POWER&reg; expanded their scope of services to include a specific focus on aging, education, finance, food insecurity, health, housing wellness, and social justice and reform in low-income, minority, and underserved communities (LIMUs), adding programs The Justice League&reg;, Senior Connect&reg;, iAmArt&reg;, iPlay&reg;, and LavaLove&reg;.

The LINCS Family Center Receives&nbsp;Grant to Promote Healthy Youth Development
Wilson Borough, PA &ndash; The LINCS Family Center recently received a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) to build community capacity to identify and implement programs and resources that ensure the well-being and healthy development of community youth.
The objective of the Community Coalition Capacity Building (CCCB) grant is to enable community coalitions to recruit key stakeholders, collect data, and develop collaborative relationships with school districts in order to provide youth with supports, resources, and opportunities needed to become successful adults.
The LINCS Family Center appointed Trina Johnson-Brady as the Community Coordinator who will lead the coalition building initiative in order to address the needs of students in the Wilson Area School District.
Johnson-Brady was most recently Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager at Frederick Living, a not-for-profit senior living community in Zieglerville, PA. Prior to that, she served as Community Relations Specialist for Phoebe Ministries where she supported the Phoebe Institute on Aging in the development of educational programming as well as the formation of a coalition of organizations to provide awareness, education, and resources to Lehigh Valley residents living with Alzheimer&rsquo;s and other dementias.
The LINCS Family Center was organized in 2012 and is a dynamic community outreach organization dedicated to offering all Wilson Area School District residents a confidential contact for accessing a variety of support through programs and services. The center currently offers a food bank, weekend lunch program, teaching garden, a summer playground program, and after school tutoring.
The PCCD grant is paid for by Pennsylvania tax payer dollars and coalitions receiving grants will also apply the Communities That Care (CTC) model throughout their activities. CTC is an evidence-based coalition model that targets the prevention of substance misuse, school dropout, delinquency, violence, and mental health among youth in Pennsylvania.
The CTC model helps communities to develop and maintain collaborative relationships and partnerships within a local community to promote healthy youth development. Communities That Care has been widely implemented with demonstrated success throughout communities in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 1998.

In 2020, generous donors &ldquo;adopted&rdquo; over 200 individuals, families, seniors and the homeless throughout New Jersey. Individuals and families, through agency referrals were able to enjoy the holiday season without the stress and embarrassment of not being able to celebrate with their families. Seniors were provided Kindle Fire 7 tablets pre-programmed with life-saving technologies connecting them to their physicians (telehealth) to manage chronic conditions, pharmacies, grocery stores, and family wellness checks. The homeless were provided charitable gift cards from Walmart to purchase food and toiletries. This year, POWER&reg; has expanded its program to include all of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
The holidays are often a huge struggle for families, especially in a COVID-19 world where the new normal includes the loss the family members, head of household, unemployment and long-haulers who contracted COVID-19 and now suffer from chronic health conditions &ndash; together, POWER&reg; and our amazing community are here to help&rdquo; said Penelope Lopez, President and CEO.
