"Imagine trying to explain a diner to someone who’s never eaten in one. It’s like a restaurant, but not quite; like a cafe, but not quite; like a bistro; but not quite. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of plopping down on a stool at the countertop for a milkshake, here’s what makes a diner a diner: They’re inexpensive, casual, open late (often around the clock), and serve a menu chock-full of all-American classics with a side of nostalgia."

Wheel, which has been operated by the Logothetides family since the 1960s, is famous for their gourmet grilled cheese. Customers pick every part of the sandwich, customized to their desire: type of bread, cheese, protein, toppings, and dipping sauce (menu here).

While Wheel serves up history and nostalgia with its 60s roots, David's Diner has managed to gain a following after just opening in 2012. The eatery, run by David and Lisa Speer, features all the diner classics, ranging from pulled pork, battered fish, and hot cakes to desserts specially made by local markets (menu here).
