Lansdale Man, Decorated Army Vet Who Was In D-Day, Dies At 99

Lansdale's 99-year-old Frank "Pete" Ehly was a part of one of the momentous occasions in world history.

LANSDALE, PA — Frank H. “Pete” Ehly, 99, of Lansdale, PA passed away peacefully on August 29, 2018 at his home. He was the beloved husband of 78 years to Grace (nee Boorse) Ehly, with whom he was united in marriage on April 20, 1940. Born August 17, 1919 in North Wales, PA he was the son of the late Frank H. and the late Mary (nee Collingsworth) Ehly.

Pete was a 1937 graduate of Lansdale High School, and he was a highly decorated United States Army Veteran who proudly, honorably, and faithfully served his country during World War II, where he participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy. He had been employed as a Printer for many years in the Newspaper Industry, and had been a member of Saint John’s United Church of Christ in Lansdale for over 25 years. Pete was an avid golfer, who also enjoyed singing and woodworking, and most of all, spending time with his family, and he will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter, Doreen Meacham, of Lansdale, his grandchildren, Eric Meacham (Jay), of San Antonio, TX and Jennifer Meacham, of Norristown, PA, and his great-grandchildren, Zachary Meacham and Abigail Meacham.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM at Saint John’s United Church of Christ, 500 W. Main Street, Lansdale, PA 19446 where his Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 PM, followed by Military Funeral Honors rendered by the United States Army. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery will be held privately by his family.

The family has respectfully requested that flowers be omitted, and that those desiring to do so may make a memorial contribution in his name to Saint John’s United Church of Christ in care of the above address, and which would be deeply appreciated by his family.
