The First in Delaware County to Introduce Tovertafel

New Award-Winning Dementia Technology for Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line

Wesley Enhanced Living (WEL) is dedicated to delivering a purpose-filled life to senior residents. This fall, the Main Line community will introduce a 'serious games system,' an award-winning technology proven to enhance the quality of life for seniors with dementia.

Wesley Enhanced Living (WEL) Main Line is the first continuing care retirement community in Delaware County to provide its residents with this technology. Dozens of dementia residents in WEL Main Line's Skilled and Personal Care Units will benefit from Tovertafel's innovative mental stimulation, and even residents without dementia will reap benefits!

Tovertafel, meaning 'Magic Table' in Dutch, projects interactive games on flat surfaces that engage cognition, promote physical activity, and enhance social interaction. The light projections respond to natural movements and gestures, promoting happiness and engagement in caregiving. Tovertafel is designed to create meaningful connections and enrich seniors' quality of life through the power of play. This technology allows residents to play various animation games one-on-one or within groups, supporting high-quality personal care while providing ease for caregivers and seniors.

Wesley Enhanced Living's Director of Nursing, Kim Ratliff, researched Europe's leading projects and inventions as European technology for dementia is currently more progressive than the U.S.

Ratliff expressed, "We had the Tovertafel in our facility for a demonstration before purchasing it. It was heartwarming to see not only the interaction with the Tovertafel but the interaction between the residents. They were so engaged and aware of each other's involvement and were encouraging each other to participate."

This year, Tovertafel announced plans to distribute and sell in the United States. The company is in the early stages of expanding outreach to North America. Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line is excited to offer senior residents more opportunities for meaningful enrichment. This technology will be monumental in seniors' personal care success for years to come at Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line.
