NEW HOPE, PA — The Bucks County Children's Museum says it's time to get back to the serious work of play.

The museum in New Hope, which has been closed since last March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will open its doors to the public on May 1. Staff members have been working to prepare the 10,000-square-foot museum, making sure it meets health-safety requirement set by Pennsylvania officials, children's museum advisors and Association of Children's Museums guidelines, the museum said in a news release.

"We want to approach reopening in a safe and responsible manner," said museum Executive Director Kelly Krumenacker. "Some exhibits have been modified and we have added several new high-interest, low touch activities that we are eager to debut."

Guests are asked to reserve tickets in advance on the museum's website for two-hour admission slots on Tuesdays through Sundays. Museum capacity will be limited and no walk-ins will be allowed.

Guests will be asked to abide by a code of conduct that includes wearing masks at all times for guests ages 2 and older. Birthday parties are not available for now, but private rentals will be allowed.

Along with new health and safety protocols, the museum has installed a hospital-grade purification system, the release said.

"We truly appreciate the community’s support and patience over the past year," Krumenacker said. "Our staff can’t wait to hear the laughter of kids and their families playing together in the museum again."

The Bucks County Children's Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an environment that connects all children to the world around them and inspires learning through play. It is located at 500 Union Square Dr. in New Hope.
