"Please review your financial statements for any suspicious activity and contact your bank to cancel any checks that may have been stolen," police said.

To combat mail theft, police recommend the following:

  • Deposit outgoing mail at indoor post office boxes.
  • Retrieve incoming mail from the mailbox as soon as possible after delivery. If you are away or delayed, ask a trusted person or neighbor to retrieve your mail.
  • Anticipate delivery of checks or credit cards and contact the senders if you believe the delivery is past due.
  • Immediately report to police any suspicious activity, missing items, or unusual activity on financial statements.
