UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — A black bear has been spotted roaming through the township’s bucolic landscape.

Early Monday morning, police said an Upper Makefield officer observed a bear in the area of Street Road between Lurgan Road and Windy Hollow Road.

“This isn’t the first time one has been seen in our area and it definitely will not be the last,” police said in a Facebook posting announcing the latest sighting.

A year ago in June, a bear was sighted multiple times in the township. It was eventually caught by the Pennsylvania Game Commission in neighboring Newtown Township and relocated to rural Pennsylvania.

Police said if you see the bear, don't call 911 unless there is an immediate danger. "You can always message police via Facebook if you spot the bear or have signs that the bear was on your property," police said.

If the bear becomes a nuisance, police said the Pennsylvania Game Commission may try and relocate it like it did last year.
