DUI Arrests, More Retail Thefts: Newtown Twp. Police Report

Police also detain and arrest wanted subject and investigate several reports of theft of packages.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between July 5 and July 11:

July 5

  • At approximately 12:15 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Tesla for committing a vehicle code violation at Second Street Pike and Durham Road in Wrightstown. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

July 6

  • Around 6:15 p.m. several Newtown Township and Newtown Borough Police Officers assisted another agency with locating and detaining a wanted subject in the 600 Block of Newtown-Yardley Road. The person was taken into custody safely with no injuries, and there was no danger to the public.

July 8

  • Around 4:30 p.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police about the theft of a package from his mailbox. The package contained prescription medicine. The U.S. Postal Service is investigating the matter, but a report was filed to document the incident.

July 9

  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 2:30 p.m. about the theft of packages from their front porch. The investigation is ongoing.

July 10

  • The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Taylorsville Road and Heritage Hills in Upper Makefield. The unit is made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and Upper Makefield. During the detail, two trucks were placed out of service, two citations and four warnings were issued for violations that were found.
  • At approximately 1 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Ford Focus for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Sycamore Street and Richboro Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized as evidence. The operator was taken into custody and processed without incident, and charges are pending evidence results.

July 11

  • Police were dispatched to McCaffrey’s Market at 11 a.m. for a retail theft in progress. As a result of the investigation, a man was taken into custody and cited.
  • Police were dispatched to Ulta Beauty around 7:45 p.m. for a retail theft that occurred the previous day. The total value of loss was $1,703. The investigation is ongoing.
