NEWTOWN, PA – It’ll be “Mel Brooks Month” in January at the historic Newtown Theatre. During that month, the theatre will screen four of Brooks’ classic films. The lineup includes:

  • “Spaceballs” (1987) on Thursday, January 4 at 3 and 7:30 p.m. A star pilot for hire and his trusty sidekick must come to the rescue of a princess and save Planet Druidia from the clutches of the evil Spaceballs. The movie stars Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis, John Candy, Bill Pullman and Daphne Zuniga.
  • “Young Frankenstein” (1974) on Thursday, January 11 at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Frankenstein’s grandson Frederick inherits the family estate and discovers his grandfather’s private journal, which contains the secret to reanimating life. The movie stars Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Teri Garr and Madeline Kahn.
  • “The Producers” (2005 version) on Thursday, January 18 at 3 and 7:30 p.m. A failing producer and his accountant scam a group of elderly women out of their nest eggs by convincing them to invest in a horrendously offensive Third Reich-themed musical.
