NEWTOWN, PA — Thursday is National Beer Day, and Newtown has you covered when it comes to grabbing a pint.

National Beer Day honors the planet's most consumed alcoholic beverage on April 7, the day President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act in 1933. That law was a significant move toward ending Prohibition, allowing people to brew and sell beer with a low alcohol content in the United States.

Nearly 90 years later, beer is easily purchased and regularly enjoyed in bars all around the country — but local taprooms and breweries are booming, too, while putting their own flavor and spin on one of America's favorite drinks.

The Newtown area has several such hotspots to help locals honor National Beer Day:

This family-owned local brewery started with a new kegerator and some home brewing back in 2010. Beers on tap have media-inspired nicknames, such as "60% Of The Time, It Works Every Time" and "Fly You Fools."

Located at 103 Penns Trail in Newtown, this spot is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant

A chain enjoyed around our region, Iron Hill offers a regularly-updated beer menu with favorites like the Gritty City IPA, named for a favorite mascot.

The brewery's Newtown spot can be found at 2920 S. Eagle Rd. It's open Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

This brewing company opened during the pandemic, and its taproom just opened this past year. Named for a Greek god, the spot has a tap list including original brews and cold-brew coffee.

Aristaeus' taproom can be found at 2475 Big Oak Rd, Suite C in Langhorne. On Thursday, the taproom is open between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.
