NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Egg Hunt, originally scheduled for Saturday, March 23 has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 24 due to the forecast for rain on Saturday.

Festivities will begin with a meet and greet with the Easter Bunny at 1 p.m. followed at 2 p.m. by the hunt at the fields behind the Goodnoe Elementary School.

The Montgomery County Bomb Squad has confirmed that it will be there with its beeping eggs for the blind and visually impaired. That hunt is scheduled for a 1:45 p.m. start.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and to be prepared for wet fields.

“You might not want to bring the kids dressed in their Easter best for this one,” said organizers. Participants should also bring their own bag or basket to collect the eggs.

At this year’s hunt kids will be scrambling for 8,000 eggs stuffed with candy donated by Sam’s Club and a handful containing valuable prizes. The eggs have been donated by The First National Bank of Newtown.

The inclusive hunt, which is organized by the Newtown Rotary Club, will be broken down into age categories and include an adult hunt and a grandparents hunt. This year’s age group categories are 0 to 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 to 9, 10 to 12, 13 to 17, grandparents, and 18 and over (parents and adults).

"You can't control Mother Nature, but we were able to adapt and get the use of the field on Sunday thanks to Council Rock," said hunt organizer Paul Salvatore, who is encouraging everyone to come out on Sunday afternoon for the community event.

"We're going to have 8,000 eggs out on the field and some nice prizes to giveaway," added Salvatore. "So we're going to need a lot of kids - adults and grandparents, too - to help us clear the fields."
