NEWTOWN, Pa. — The 10-year-old Council Rock-Newtown Little League team finished the season third in Pennsylvania after winning the District 30 and the Section 6 tournaments.

"It is an accomplishment to say the least," said Lou Schiller, a spokesperson for the team

On its way to the state tournament, the team won the District 30 championship after defeating Holland, 9-0, in game one; Northampton, 11-2, in game two; Warwick, 27 to 0, in game three; Holland, 11-1, in game four; and Deep Run, 4-1, in the championship game.

The team went onto win the Section 6 Championship and a berth in the state tournament by beating Lehigh, 4-2, Franklin, 14-2, and Lehigh, 8-4.

The state tournament took place out in Pittsburgh and was hosted by West Point Little League in Greensburg.

The tournament opened with a disappointing 3-4 loss against its Bucks County neighbor, Morrisville.

Newtown came back to win game two over St. Marys, 8-1; Heritage, 9-0, in game three; and a squeaker against Blue Mountain, 3-2, in game four.

In the last game, the team again met its neighbor, Morrisville, on the baseball field. Newtown-Council Rock was down 0-4, but came back and tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the seventh inning, Morrisville scored the go ahead run making the final score 4-5.

"Of all the teams from around the state, we traveled out to Pittsburgh to play Morrisville," said Schiller, noting the irony in the situation. "And then we lost both games by one run. We were close. The boys were pretty devastated. There were a lot of tears."

Morrisville finished second in the state after losing to the Abington Little League All Stars from Clarks Summit. The All Stars claimed the state title and will now play in the Eastern Regional Tournament in Rhode Island this weekend.

While the Council Rock-Newtown 10-year-olds came up short in its quest for a state title, finishing third in the state is quite an accomplishment for the boys, who have played together since they were six, said Schiller.

The district round started with 185 teams from throughout the state with only eight, including Council Rock-Newtown, making it to the state tournament for the 8-10 year old tournament.

"This was definitely a week the boys will remember forever," said Schiller. "It was an absolute great experience."

Coached by Brad Hamilton, Doug Peiffer and Kyle Neeld, the team includes Brayden Peiffer, Brody Gage, Dean Hamilton, Ethan Leahy, Gavin Caudill, Nicholas Schiller, Rocco DaBronzo, Ryan Uhl, Sav Longo, Tyler Neeld, Tyler Wexler and Wes Esteves.
