NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Plans for summer camp are moving ahead in Newtown Township.

Newtown Township Parks & Recreation said this week it is still planning to hold its popular summer camps. "Summer camp will be even more important for kids this year because they miss interacting with friends and classmates due to school closings," an update issued Wednesday said.

As of right now, summer camp is still being planned for the summer, but a final decision on if summer camp will be held will be made by the end of May, the update said.

If it is held, "we will be following all CDC guidelines to ensure the safety of all campers and camp staff," the Parks & Recreation Department said.

If officials determine cannot be held, all fees will be fully refundable. The township hosts a variety of weekly camps for all interests. You can learn more here.

Some area camps have already announced cancelations for the summer due to the coronavirus pandemic.

At Bucks County Community College, the traditional Kids on Campus summer camp series has been canceled for 2020. The school is offering refunds for everyone who had registered, while restructuring "to offer new and exciting remote camps."

Camp NAC at the Newtown Athletic Club plans to open starting June 1. "This is always subject to change," said Brianne Feinour, the director of Camp NAC. "As of right now, we are just taking things day by day."

Bucks County's YMCA and George School are also moving ahead.

"With the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently watching the CDC restrictions and the governor for more direction," said Mike Bailey, the director of summer camp at George Scchool. "As long as we are able to keep our campers and staff safe with all of the CDC restrictions implemented, we are staying hopeful and still planning to open at this time."
