Newtown Twp. Police Make DUI Arrests, Investigate Fraudulent Activity

Police serve animal cruelty warrant at Wrightstown farm; arrest two men wanted for retail theft in other jurisdictions.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between August 2 and 7:

August 2

  • At approximately 3:30 p.m., a Newtown Township resident responded to headquarters to report fraudulent activity involving unauthorized credit card charges. A report was made to document the incident and the bank is investigating the matter.
  • Police responded to the CVS Pharmacy in Wrightstown around 4:45 p.m. for a retail theft. Following the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for two men who were also wanted in connection with several retail thefts in other jurisdictions. Both men voluntarily turned themselves in on August 7 and were processed and arraigned by District Justice Michael Petrucci. They were released on 10 percent of $50,000 bail and ordered to have no contact with CVS.
  • At approximately 10:15 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Nissan Rogue for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Richboro Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

August 4

  • At approximately 10:45 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a sedan for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver refused to submit blood for chemical testing. Charges are pending.

August 6

  • The Bucks County SPCA conducted an animal cruelty investigation at Narrow Way Farm on Worthington Mill Road in Wrightstown after receiving complaints including photos and videos of sick animals and reports of animals dying. BCSPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement team, with assistance from Newtown Township Police, served a warrant to remove the animals. All 124 animals from Narrow Way Farm are now safely in the care of the Bucks County SPCA.

August 7

  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police at 12:30 p.m. to report an incident of fraud. The resident was selling a vehicle on Craigslist and received a fraudulent offer. The scammer mailed a forged check in an amount over the selling price and asked the resident to send them back the difference. The resident took the check to the bank where he was told the check was fraudulent. Fortunately, the resident did not suffer a monetary loss.
