Officer Promoted To Police Corporal In Newtown Township

A Newtown native, Nick Ciambrello joined the department in 2016. He is the grandson of former township supervisor Dick Weaver.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department on Wednesday night announced the promotion of Police Officer Nicholas Ciambrello to the job of corporal.

As members of the department looked on, Ciambrello took the oath of office administered by District Justice Mick Petrucci.

In his new role, Ciambrello will supervise the performance of police personnel under his command. He will be responsible for overseeing, organizing, training, and directing the activities of assigned law enforcement personnel and equipment and making sure that the goals and objectives of the department are carried out.

A Newtown native, Ciambrello joined the department in Sept. 2016. He is the grandson of former township supervisor Dick Weaver who sat in the front row as his grandson was sworn in as corporal.

Ciambrello is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey and earned a
bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre.

According to Chief John Hearn, Ciambrello is an active member of the department's Honor Guard. He's also a member of the South Central SWAT Team, responding at all hours of the day and night for incidents happening throughout the region.

In addition, he's an instructor within the department for many patrol tactics and in the use of force options, said the chief.

"He's going to be a valuable member to our team," said Chief Hearn.
