NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Truck Enforcement Task Force was out in force early Thursday morning conducting a static and mobile inspection detail along the Newtown Bypass.

The task force, made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and Upper Makefield Township, conducts periodic inspections to ensure that large vehicles are safe and in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, that the operators are obeying traffic control devices, and most importantly, to make the roadways of Newtown and the surrounding areas safer for the community.

Police said drivers need to use smart decision making when making sudden lane changes in front of trucks and when pulling out in front of them. Their size and weight impacts their ability to stop quickly, said police.

"The trucking industry is crucial to our everyday lives and the operators provide a valuable service. It is our responsibility to ensure they do so safely while we protect and serve all citizens," said police.
