WRIGHTSTOWN, PA — The waiting, they say, is sometimes the hardest part. That's especially true when it comes to closed bridges.

With the Grange Fair taking place this week, Patch thought it was a good time to update everyone on just what is going on with the Worthington Mill Road Bridge.

Construction began a year ago in late August 2022 to replace the bridge, which spans the Neshaminy Creek between Wrightstown and Northampton townships.

Under the contract, PennDOT’s contractor is removing and replacing the 68-year-old, single-lane structure with a wider three-span composite prestressed concrete structure measuring 84 feet in length and 32 feet in width. The new bridge will allow for two lanes of traffic to travel across the structure, replacing the one-lane crossing.

The bridge, which carries approximately 2,600 vehicles daily, has been closed since September 2021 when the roadway approaches sustained heavy deterioration due to flood waters caused by Hurricane Ida.

During construction, Worthington Mill Road motorists will continue to be directed to use Swamp Road and Route 232 (Second Street Pike). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. The closure will remain in place until the project completion in the summer of 2024.

H&K Group, Inc., of Skippack, is the general contractor on the $4.5 million project, which is financed with 100% state funds.
