PENNSBURG, PA — Doug Mastriano, the Republican state senator from south-central Pennsylvania who is the GOP nominee for governor, swung through Montgomery County on Tuesday during a campaign stop at a local roofing business.

The visit was part of an ongoing campaign tour to communities across southeastern Pennsylvania.

Mastriano, first elected to his senate seat back in 2019, visited Jurin Roofing in Pennsburg, which also serves as his western Montgomery County campaign headquarters.

Photos and videos posted to social media shows Mastriano and his wife, Rebbie, arriving to a parking lot full of supporters carrying signs supporting their candidate.

"If you want our kids to grow up with the same freedoms you have here, we got to beat him bad," Mastriano reportedly told supporters in the parking lot of the business upon his arrival Tuesday according to an article in the Pennsylvania Capital-Star.

Mastriano was referencing his Democratic opponent Josh Shapiro, the current state attorney general who lives in Montgomery County.

Shapiro has been a strong critic of Mastriano, whom Shapiro says is too extreme for the general electorate in Pennsylvania.

Mastriano, however, has claimed that he is not as extreme as he has been portrayed in some media reports, and that he represents many of the values of Pennsylvania citizens.

"What's my vision for Pennsylvania here? To restore freedom. To hand powers back over to where it always should be. And we stand for the freedom of all men and women — all Americans. I just don't swear allegiance, like Josh, to my party," Mastriano said at the Montgomery County stop according to the Pennsylvania Capital-Star article.

After his Montgomery County stop, Mastriano had another stop in neighboring Delaware County, which up until a few years ago was still a Republican stronghold in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Most of the counties surrounding Philadelphia now have Democratic majorities. Bucks County, which sits next to Montgomery County and is bordered by the Delaware River, still remains somewhat of a more purple county.

At the Montgomery County stop, the Pennsylvania Capital-Star reported that journalists, while permitted outside the event, were not allowed on the grounds of the roofing business where the campaign stop was held.

On Facebook, people commented about Mastriano's subsequent tour to Delaware County this week, with one poster saying that the turnout included "sooo many from Philadelphia (and surrounding areas) there today!!!!!"

In another Facebook post, the Mastriano campaign stated that, "We the people are fed up with the same ol' same from career politicians and empty promises ... We will take back our beautiful state of Pennsylvania on November 8th."

The ongoing southeastern Pennsylvania tour also included a stop this week in Lancaster County.

During a stop at the Star Barn in Elizabethtown, video of which was posted on social media, Mastriano took to the stage, to thank supporters, saying, "We're so thankful for each and every one of us out there."

"Money can't buy elections. People win elections," Mastriano said onstage.

Mastriano then said the media has helped Shapiro to "amplify his message," which is why Mastriano's wife, Rebbie, urged her husband to get out and spread his message to a wider audience.

"If we are at a crossroads, it's between tyranny and freedom," Mastriano continued on stage in Lancaster.

Mastriano said he's fighting for the freedoms of Pennsylvania, noting that if he is going to win it has got to be a "team effort."

"We're going to win," Mastriano said to a crowd of supporters inside the barn.
