After Mail Theft Bust, Tredyffrin Police Offer Security Resources

TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, PA — After two people were taken into custody and charged with crimes related to stolen mail by way of identity theft, authorities in Tredyffrin Township are recommending resources for staying safe and secure.

Joshua Lee Hartmann, 41, and Jessica Michelle Zipkin, 33, both of Spring City, were charged with crimes related to the theft of hundreds of pieces of mail in Chester and Montgomery counties.

Hartmann was taken into custody in Tredyffrin, and Zipkin at their Spring City home, where authorities found the stolen mail.

In a letter to the community, police recommended residents learn how to protect themselves from fraud and identity theft on the federal government's website here and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania website online here.

Residents are urged to monitor their financial statements from banks, credit card companies, and more for any suspicious activity due to the nature of the crimes, police said. Additionally, police said residents may want to run credit histories to ensure they weren't victims of this theft operation.

One victim was unable to vote last year due to the mail theft operation, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and may uncover more victims, police said.
