Conestoga Crew Club Shines in Spring Medal Season

The Conestoga Crew Club has launched the spring medal season with an impressive start, highlighting their dedication and skill.

The Conestoga Crew Club has launched the spring medal season with an impressive start, highlighting their dedication and skill. “At Conestoga Crew, we emphasize a love for the sport, hard work, and competition. The athletes' competitiveness has increased at every level, and the students have truly embraced this mindset,” declares Goldia Kiteck, head coach.

Beginning in January, the rowers train six days a week, starting with strength and conditioning on the ergs and transitioning to water practice at Bachelors Barge Club in February.

Conestoga Crew is a great team for all kinds of athletes who want to work hard, have fun, and win. Being on the water, developing technique and speed, is one of the best experiences,” explains Helena Laursen, Varsity and Captain.

The medal season began with the City Championships on May 4-5 in Philadelphia and will culminate at the 2024 USRowing Youth National Championship in Sarasota, Florida, from June 7-9. This intense month features five major regattas, where Conestoga's Freshman/Novice and JV/Varsity teams traditionally secure numerous medals that showcase the strength of the program and the performance of the athletes.

25 medals at City Championships
At City Championships on May 4th and 5th in Philadelphia, Conestoga Crew Club secured a total of 25 medals.

Gold medals:

- The Boys Varsity Double: Kyle Kerns and Kevin Corr

- Boys Freshman Quad: Kaden Murray, Ethan Borst, Sebastian Jodzio, and Kieran Engel

Silver medals:

- Girls Lightweight Double: Helena Laursen and Madelyn Przybylowski

- Girls Varsity Quad: Guinevere Reaume, Katie Przybylowski, Charlotte Hagerman, and Eva Ong

- Novice rower Roberto Lucarelli in a single

- Boys Novice Quad: Wesley Keohane, Quinn Lanchoney, Caleb Chong, and Avi Verma

Bronze medals:

- Boys JV Quad: Jack Sauder, Lucas Garvey, Peter Jacovini, and Hudson Dunkle

- Girls Freshman Quad: Serafina Ameche, Tabitha Hawkins, Scarlett Miller, and Alivia Meixner

The boats that placed at the top place overall in their heats qualified for the SRAA (Scholastic Rowing Association of America,) a National championships regatta, scheduled for May 24 and 25 at Cooper River Pennsauken, NJ.

14 medals Mid-Atlantic Championships
The Mid-Atlantic Championships, held May 11-12 at Mercer Lake, NJ, saw Conestoga Crew Club adding another 14 medals to their tally.

Silver medals:

- Women's Youth Quad : Guinevere Reaume, Helena Laursen, Charlotte Hagerman, and Eva On

- Youth Novice Quad: Wesley Keohane, Quinn Lanchoney, Caleb Chong, and Avi Verma earned silver medals.

Bronze medals:

Men's U17 Double: Simon Wang and Hudson Dunkle

Men's U17 Quad: Kaden Murray, Ethan Borst, Sebastian Jodzio, and Kieran Engel

Boats that placed at the top place overall in their heats qualified for the USRowing Youth National Championship, in Florida, set for June.

Stotesbury Cup Regatta

Sponsored by the Schuylkill Navy, Stotesbury Cup Regatta is the world's oldest and largest high school rowing competition . 9 Boats for Conestoga Crew qualified for the semi-finals and 3 boats for the Finals, on May 17-18 on the Schuylkill river.

Bronze medals were awarded to the Boys Junior Varsity 4x : J. Sauder, L. Garvey, P. Jacovini, H. Miller.

Girls Varsity 4x placed 4th: G. Reaume, C. Hagerman, H. Laursen, E. Ong.

Boys Freshman 4x: 5th place: K. Murray, E. Borst, S. Jodzio, K. Engel.

"I love Conestoga Crew for the competitiveness everyone brings to every practice and race, the bonds I've formed with many of my teammates, and the places I've been able to travel to for competitions", concludes Kevin Corr, Varsity and Captain. "I am looking forward to the trails for the next race, SRAA, in New Jersey."
