Kids & Family

MainLineFreunde

The new meeting place where people can come together to foster, practice and explore the German language and culture.

The Main Line is a wonderful and diverse place to live and raise a family; it is home to many who have lived here with their families for generations, but it is also home for many families who have come from abroad to work for one of the international companies and to take advantage of our good public and private schools in the area.

MainLineFreunde saw the need for a new community for everyone with German-speaking roots or simply with an interest in the German language and culture.

So in the spring of 2018 four friends sat together to make their vision of this community a reality, to bring people together and enjoy some German “Gemütlichkeit” at special events throughout the year and to foster the German language through classes for children and adults.

MainLineFreunde will be offering classes in German for children (heritage speakers or bilinguals) and adults weekly on Tuesdays from 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm at the United Church of Christ Valley Forge, 45 Walker Road, Wayne, PA 19087 starting September 25.

There will be many events throughout the school year, but also events that are open to everyone starting with a family hike through Valley Forge Park on October 21 and of course the popular German Holiday Market at the Willowbrook Farm in Malvern on December 8 & 9. MainLineFreunde will also offer a German book and media flea market in January, a movie night in February and a lecture night in March.

Maybe the MainLineFreunde can – true to their name - do their little part in keeping the wonderful friendship between US-Americans and Germans alive and well by creating a rich, vibrant, and modern German-American community right here on the Main Line.
