Old Eagle School Cemetery In Tredyffrin Gets Official Marker

A local DAR chapter Sunday placed a marker at the historic Old Eagle School Cemetery in preparation for the nation's 250th anniversary.

TREDYFFRIN, PA —Under bright sunny skies Sunday, several dozen members of a local Daughter of American Revolution chapter unveiled a marker at the Old Eagle School Cemetery commemorating the men and women who fought for our independence in the Revolutionary War.

DAR’s Jeptha Abbott Chapter based in Ardmore is participating in the national "America250" campaign to lead the nation in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the birth of our nation on July 4, 2026.

The Jeptha Abbott chapter has over 200 members and is named after a Revolutionary War soldier.

“When the soldiers who fought in Valley Forge and other nearby locations needed to be buried, some cemeteries denied them due to strict burial criteria, but at Old Eagle School, everyone was welcome, " said Ashley White, Old Eagle School president.

County Commissioner Michele Kichline said looking ahead to our country's upcoming 250th birthday, the DAR is preparing in a significant way to celebrate this noteworthy milestone anniversary.

"This DAR marker recognizes those who, believing in the noble cause of liberty and with everything to lose, fought courageously,” Kichline said. “With the dedication of this marker today, may all who pass this way remember those who risked everything to win for us a new nation”

The DAR’s goal is to place at least one marker in every state in advance – and in celebration – of the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary.

With the addition of Old Eagle School Cemetery in the Wayne section of Tredyffrin, there are now eight markers in Pennsylvania.
