PA Turnpike Construction Update

TREDYFFRIN, PA – Sound wall installation is completed on both sides of the Pennsylvania Turnpike as part of a $117 million project to widen a 2-mile stretch of the turnpike to six lanes at the Valley Forge Interchange, which is milepost 324-326.

The residents had input on the colors and textures of the sound barriers early in the project’s planning stages. The barriers in the Glen Hardie are beige ashlar stone.

The construction on the turnpike is focused on excavating and reconstructing the two eastbound lanes and the median.

In addition, the inside sections of the two new bridges over Thomas Road, Glenhardie Road, and Route 422 will be constructed.

Other work includes:

• Resurfacing a one-mile portion of I-276 east of Valley Forge Interchange
• Placing new pavement marking on 276 and the Interchange.
• Installing overhead signs and a sign at the bridge near the Interchange

The stormwater basins are expected to be completed at the beginning of the spring of 2025.

Glen Hardie Bridge will remain closed between Richard and Walker Roads this winter for the replacement of the stone arch bridge carrying Glen Hardie over Trout Creek.

The closed section of Glenhardie Road beneath the Pennsylvania Turnpike overpass is scheduled to reopen this summer, turnpike officials said.
