TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, PA — Officials in Tredyffrin Township are urging residents to be mindful of what they are flushing down toilets.

The township said it is experiencing clogging and backups of sewer flows in our sanitary sewer system and at our pump stations.

According to officials, this is due to residents flushing sanitary or disposable disinfectant wipes, tissues, paper towels, dental floss, or other hygiene products down their toilets.

"Tredyffrin Township would like to remind all residents and property owners that you should only flush bodily fluids and Toilet Paper down your toilet," the township said. "Toilet paper readily dissolves and can flow through the sanitary sewer system, pump stations, and into our regional wastewater treatment plant facilities. Sanitary or disposable wipes DO NOT dissolve and are fibrous in nature."

Wipes and other items should only be thrown away in the trash.

With the backups due to improper flushing, additional staff and resources are needed to address the sewer issues.

"Please do your part to properly dispose of all products other than toilet paper, by placing them in the trash and NOT into your toilet," the township said. "Even if the package says they are flushable they quickly build up and clog our Sanitary Sewer pipes and equipment at our Township Pump Stations."
