Tredyffrin Man, Banking VP and Wharton Grad, Passes Away After Long Battle

Richard Englander bravely fought multiple myeloma for 22 years.

DEVON, PA -- ENGLANDER, RICHARD A., 74, of Devon, PA died after a 22-year battle with Multiple Myeloma on March 14, 2016 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was born on January 29, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Richard S. and Sarah (Faust) Englander.

He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Business and received an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Richard spent 50 years in the investment industry, notably serving as a Principal and Portfolio Manager of Barrow, Hanley, Mewhinney and Strauss, Inc. (Dallas, Texas).

He also served as Vice President and Portfolio Manager for General Accident Group, INA Capital Management Corporation, and Philadelphia Life Asset Management Company, and most recently as Senior Adviser with Seminole Management Company Inc. (New York).

He gave the glory for his many successes in business to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and used his gifts and talents for the spread of God's kingdom, serving on the boards of SAMS-USA (Society of Anglican Missionaries and Senders), the Ekklesia Society, and the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew.

Through the years, he was also Rector's Warden and Accounting Warden of his parish church, the Church of Good Samaritan in Paoli, PA.

His glorious singing voice and hearty laugh will be missed by his beloved wife of 49 years, Lucia (Alleva) Englander; daughters Candace Franz (Burvée) and Heather Niedland (Peter); and grandchildren Elizabeth ("Libby"), Zane, Avery, Sylvia, and Burvée ("Mead").

A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Church of the Good Samaritan, 212 W. Lancaster Ave., Paoli, PA where friends may visit with the family from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M.

Memorial gifts in honor of the deceased should be directed to the Great Commission Fund of SAMS-USA, PO Box 299, Ambridge, PA 15003; the Trinity School for Ministry, 311 Eleventh Street, Ambridge, PA 15003; or the Church of the Good Samaritan's endowment fund, 212 W. Lancaster Avenue, Paoli, PA.
