TREDYFFRIN TWP — Tredyffrin Township police warned residents Thursday to avoid mailing checks in the U.S. Postal boxes in the wake of an investigation that disclosed more than 600 checks amounting to nearly $1 million were stolen from area mailboxes.

If an online bill pay is unavailable, residents should mail checks inside the nearest U.S. Postal Office, police said.

The warning follows the arrest of Bruno Nyanue, 19, of Clifton Heights, Delaware County, on charges in connection with the theft of more than 600 checks in 39 jurisdictions.

Nyanue is free on $25,000 bail awaiting trial in Chester County Court on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, forgery and related charges, according to court records.

Police issued a warrant for arrest for Zidane Gallimore, 23, of Jenkintown, on charges in connection to the thefts.
According to Tredyffrin police:

In November 2021, police received multiple reports of check fraud from victims throughout the township.

The checks were stolen from post office boxes, fraudulently altered and cashed or deposited in different accounts.

On Dec. 13, Officer Christopher DeCarlo saw a vehicle engaged in suspicious activity near the Paoli Post office, resulting in the arrest of Nyanue.

Police are actively investigating with assistance of the U.S. Postal Inspection Office. Additional arrests are expected.

Anyone experiencing check fraud can contact local police or the U.S. Postal Inspection service at 877-876-2455.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Gallimore is asked to contact the Tredyffrin police at 610-644-3221.
