Weichert Realtors Help Local School in a Backpack Program

Community generosity ensures local students attend school nourished and ready to learn.

East Greenwich, R.I. / February 6, 2015 – More than 16 million children in the United States live in food insecure homes. The nationwide Blessings in a Backpack program works to reverse that sad statistic by providing elementary schoolchildren with a backpack of food every weekend during the school year.

Joellen Wunner and Rebecca Moniz of WEICHERT, REALTORS® - Cress and Company learned of the program in their area and thought it was a great way to give back to the community they serve and the school system their children attend. Their colleagues at Cress and Company were fully on board with the effort. In a partnership with John’s Bait and Tackle they worked to raise funds over the holidays for the Davisville Middle School through Blessings in a Backpack. A check for $750 was presented to the school on January 15th.

“For every Christmas tree sold at John’s Bait and Tackle our firm donated $3 to Blessings in a Backpack,” said Broker/Owner Robert Cressman, Jr. “By Christmas Eve every tree was sold! We’re extremely proud of the generosity shown by our North Kingstown friends and neighbors. Their support means that seven to nine children at Davisville Middle School will come to school nourished and ready to learn in 2015.”
