Ribbon Cutting for 200-Home Reynolds Farm Development is Wednesday

State, local and federal officials will be on hand.

The newest neighborhood in North Kingstown is Reynolds Farm and eventually, more than 200 houses will be built in the largest subdivision project in Rhode Island in 50 years.

On Wednesday, state, local and federal officials will be on hand for a ribbon cutting at the development, located off Post Road.

Designed and built by h.a. Fisher Homes, the houses in Reynolds Farm will include a mix of single-family houses, condos and live-work townhomes.

All of the homes are based on a “woman-centric” design that “thoughtfully incorporates a woman’s point of view.”

That means more storage space, flexible spaces, open space and design that lends the home to entertaining and relaxation, according to a release.

The homes will range in size from 1,500 to 2,100-plus square feet. A highlight of the single-family homes is the inclusion of an optional Casita, a private space that includes a separate entrance, kitchen, living room, and bedroom. Designed for multi-generational living, Casitas can be used by retiring parents, post-college adult children or other family members.

Prices are expected to start in the low $300,000’s.

“Reynolds Farm will introduce a new vibrancy to North Kingstown. The homes are conveniently located near the shops and restaurants of Wickford Village and will appeal to buyers who seek a sense of community and desire the convenience of being close to local amenities,” said Hugh Fisher, founder and president of h.a. Fisher Homes. “We are excited to help create a dynamic neighborhood and continue our tradition of creating Woman-Centric homes in communities throughout Rhode Island.”

People who watch Rhode Island’s real estate market closely will be interested to see how quickly the homes in Reynolds Farm sell.

The Providence Journal reported that only 809 single-family building permits in Rhode Island in 2014 — a big drop from better times. In 1999, for example, there were 2,639 permits issued. In 2003, there were 1,984.

Reynolds Farm will likely be considered as a possible home to employees lured into the area by the ongoing growth at Quonset. A growing list of companies there have steadily been hiring thanks in part to efforts by Quonset Development Corporation to stimulate growth with fast-track approvals and site prep work completed on vacant sites.

One issue facing major employers in Rhode Island is a lack of skilled workers who can slide into high-tech and skilled manufacturing jobs like those offered in Quonset. With new homes rising just around the corner from Quonset, Reynolds Farm might be a tempting place to call home for workers coming to Rhode Island for a job at Quonset.

Along with more than 200 homes, the site will feature green spaces, energy efficient design elements, a gazebo and a main street.

The ribbon cutting is planned for 10:30 a.m. at 92 Morningside Drive.

The development is located off Post Road at the intersection of Camp Avenue.

If using a GPS, put in 7373 Post Road (Coventry Credit Union).

The model homes will be open for public tours on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
