Nashville Mom Says 3-Year-Old Shot Boyfriend: Police

NASHVILLE, TN — A woman told Metro Police her 3-year-old son accidentally shot her boyfriend in the back with a 9-millimeter semi-automatic Wednesday afternoon.

The woman, who police did not identify, told investigators she was fixing her hair in the bathroom around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon at her home on Hamilton Church Road when she heard a gunshot come from the kitchen.

When she ran into the kitchen she saw her boyfriend, 20-year-old Deangelo Spears, with a gunshot wound to the back and her toddler holding the pistol, she said. She told detectives she put the gun on the counter and ran outside to call for help before putting the gun in a closet.

The investigation is ongoing. Spears, whose injuries were critical, only told police the shooting occurred outside and didn't want to talk to detectives further, according to MNPD.
