Loudoun Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Faces DWI Charge

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A deputy prosecutor in Loudoun County who ran for election in Prince William County is facing intoxicated driving-related charges.

Matthew Lowery, who works as deputy commonwealth's attorney in the Loudoun County Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney, had been arrested on Saturday. He was charged with DWI (first offense) and refusal of a blood/breath test.

The Loudoun County Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney responded in a statement saying, "we are abiding by Loudoun County Department of Human Resources' protocols and will not be making any further statements on this matter."

According to Prince William County court documents, a court hearing is scheduled for Aug. 9.

Lowery, a Republican, unsuccessfully challenged Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney Amy Ashworth, a Democrat, in the November 2023 election. His campaign platform included adding prosecutors skilled in handling DUI and drug-impaired driving cases. He was previously an assistant commonwealth's attorney in Fairfax County, Prince William County and Spotsylvania County.
