Dr. Yousuf is the Graduate Program Director of Data Science in the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at UMBC-Shady Grove. He has extensive consulting experience in medical devices and AI in healthcare, and teaching experience in parallel computing, AI, robotics and intelligent manufacturing. He holds a PhD in Theoretical High Energy Physics from Quaid-i-Azam University, a postdoc in Parallel Supercomputing from SUNY Albany, and a postdoc in Medical Devices and Data from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

Taxes in Retirement Seminar at Douglass Community Center on July 18th & 23rd

Craig Esherick, Associate Director at GMU's Center for Sport Management, leads a discussion of the Paris Summer Games and shares his USA basketball coaching experiences from the 1988 Seoul Games.

Professor Esherick was a scholarship basketball player at Georgetown University while earning an undergraduate Finance degree. He attended the Georgetown University Law Center and also was a graduate assistant basketball coach for two of those years.
After graduating from law school and passing the DC Bar, Professor Esherick became a full-time assistant coach at Georgetown for the men’s basketball team. His tenure as an assistant lasted 17 and a half years and included a stint as the assistant basketball coach for the USA Olympic team that won a bronze medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
He became the head basketball coach in 1999 at Georgetown University and held that position long enough to win 103 games.

Fireman's Field

Enjoy great food and drink at the 11th annual Purcellville Wine and Food Festival on Saturday, July 20 in Dillon’s Woods at the historic Fireman’s Field Complex. The festival will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. Bring your family and friends to enjoy local wine, beer, food, live music, art and more!
This year’s festival features 40 vendors with wineries, breweries, food and snack vendors, and exhibitors. There is a great line-up of live music featuring the Darby Brothers Band, Juliana and The Agreeables, and Chris Timbers Band. Meet local artists and watch them create works of art in the “Arts in the Garden” section hosted by the Purcellville Arts Council. Other fun activities include face painting and caricature drawing.
General admission to the Purcellville Wine and Food Festival is $5+ in advance, and $10+ at the gate. A souvenir glass will be provided with the purchase of the first drink ticket. Drink tickets for beer and wine will be sold at the main gate and at a central location inside the festival. Attendees will take those tickets to the participating winery or brewery of their choice to get a drink. Drink tickets for wine (4 oz.) and beer (7 oz.) are $5.75+ in advance, $6.50+ at the gate.
Bottles of wine will be sold the same way; the cost per bottle is $36+ in advance and $40+ at the gate (you must consume bottles at the event). Individual drink tickets and the tickets for a bottle of wine may be purchased on-site after general admission has been paid. If purchased in advance, tickets for drinks and bottles of wine may only be used at the festival after the general admission has been paid.
The popular VIP section is back! For $275+, the VIP experience will include admission for six, a table for six, three bottles of local wine, six souvenir glasses, six drink tickets, early entry to the festival, sweets/savories for the table, and six tickets to a 2024 Purcellville Cannons regular season baseball game. Chapman DeMary Trail

Come to the Chapman DeMary Trail on Sunday, July 28 at 1 p.m. to learn about stream ecology – how streams support a wide variety of wildlife, reduce pollution, and the important role they play in the Earth’s circulatory system. Helen de Groot, retired Life Science teacher and Virginia Master Naturalist, will lead this nature walk along the South Fork Catoctin Creek which flows through the Chapman DeMary Trail. This creek is part of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed; it feeds into Catoctin Creek, then the Potomac River, then the bay. This event is hosted by the Purcellville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and is part of the Discover Nature’s Secrets series held the last Sunday of each month.&nbsp;

Streams play an important role in providing critical habitat, food, and shelter for waterfowl, fish, and other aquatic species. They also mitigate damage from floods, provide sources of drinking water, filter pollutants, and support recreational and commercial uses. 
Before you join us, be sure to go on the Summer Trivia Walk at the Chapman DeMary Trail and get all the answers. Bring your completed answer sheet with you to the nature walk to get a prize. The Chapman DeMary Trail is a 10-acre area considered to be the last stand of old-growth forest in the Town of Purcellville. The area is open to the public for environmental exploration, education, and recreation. The Town of Purcellville holds the conservation easement for this privately-owned property. The entrance and parking for the Chapman DeMary Trail is behind the building at 205 East Hirst Road in Purcellville.
