Loudoun Schools Change Schedule For Friday Due To Weather

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County schools will be closed on Friday, Jan. 16 due to expected inclement weather.

another round of snow will blanket the Northern Virginia and DC region Friday. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory.

The winter weather advisory from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday applies to much of the region, including the District of Columbia, Fairfax County, Arlington County, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford County, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, northwest, southeast and central Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.

Snow between 1 to 3 inches is forecast north of US-50 and Interstate 66, and areas to the south could get 1 inch.

AccuWeather predicts the winter storm will hit much of the Midwest, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Impacts may differ by area, as the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England could receive 1 to 3 inches, while parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, northern Maryland and central New Jersey could see 3 to 6 inches fall.

"This will be a colder storm than most have grown accustomed to in much of the Midwest and the Northeast in that the lower ground and air temperatures combined with the fluffy or grainy nature of the snow will quickly accumulate on streets and highways," said AccuWeather senior meteorologist Brett Anderson.

National Weather Service forecasters warn that the winter weather could make the Friday morning commute hazardous in the DC region. Drivers should expect slippery road conditions and are urged to slow down and use caution. On sidewalks, steps and driveways, pedestrians should look out for slippery and icy surfaces.

While temperatures could remain in the 30s during the snow, more frigid weather will follow. The Capital Weather Gang expects Friday night temperatures in the mid or high 10s. Saturday's high temperatures could reach the 20s before returning to the 10s at night. Sunday brings highs in the upper 20s and low 30s. By Monday, temperatures as high as the lower 40s will seem like a relief from the cold.

Friday: Snow before 10 a.m., then snow, possibly mixed with rain between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., then a chance of snow after 1 p.m. High near 34. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible. At night, a slight chance of snow showers before 1 a.m. and mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent at night.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27. Northwest wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. At night, mostly clear, with a low around 18.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 32. At night, mostly clear, with a low around 17.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40. At night, partly cloudy, with a low around 27.
