FAIRFAX, VA — Looking for something to take your mind off the extreme heat? The folks at Fairfax Police Division of Animal Control wouldn't mind at all if you gave some serious thought to adopting a pet. And it just so happens that they're having an animal adoption event 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Pet Supplies Plus, 11054 Lee Highway.

Adoption fees are $150 for kittens, cats, puppies and dogs; and $20 for other small animals.
All animals are examined by a veterinarian prior to their adoption. Dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated as is appropriate for their age, and de-wormed. Dogs are tested for heartworms and cats are combo tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV.

Many of the kittens recently arrived from southwestern Virginia, and you might fall for one of them after taking a look.
