Caboose Brewery Brown Ale Wins Gold Medal At US Open Beer Championship

Caboose Brown Ale is the second beer from the Caboose Brewing Co. to win a medal in a national competition.

FAIRFAX, VA — One of Caboose Brewing Co.'s beers received a gold medal during last weekend's Open Beer Championship. Caboose's Boxcar Brown Ale was named the top beer in the American Brown Ale category.

"This particular beer is a smooth and robust brown ale with hints of rich chocolate and dark fruit and was awarded Gold in the American Brown Ale category," according to the brewery's description.

Bartow Brown from Drowned Valley Brewing Company in, Cartersville, Georgia was awarded the silver and the bronze medal went to Tradition Honey Brown Ale from Tradition Brewing Company in Norfolk.

While Caboose Brewery has won multiple awards at the Virginia Craft Brewers Cup in years past, this is only the brewery's second national win.

Caboose Brewery has two locations: Caboose Commons, i2918 Eskridge Road in Fairfax and Caboose Tavern, 520 Mill St. NE in Vienna.

The U.S. Beer Championship, which takes place in Oxford, Ohio, is the third largest brewing competition in the U.S.

Other medalists from Virginia breweries included:

  • Lime Of The Party from New Realm Brewing Co. in Virginia Beach won a gold medal in Other Kettle Sours.
  • Disturbance in the Schwartz from Benchtop Brewing Company in Norfolk won a gold medal in German Schwarzbier.
  • Man in the Box Olde from Salem Brewing Company in Salem won a gold medal in Traditional German-Style Bock.
  • Goldensville Lager from Patch Brewing Co. in Gordonsville won a silver medal in Dortmunder/Euro-style Export.
  • Peach Apricot Creamsicle Ale from Caiseal Beer & Spirits Co. in Hampton won a silver medal in American Fruit-Mixed.
  • Hang Ten Gose from Tradition Brewing Company in Newport News won a silver in American Fruit Wheat - POG.
  • Barrel Reserve: Imperial Pumpkin Ale from 2 Silos Brewing Co. in Manassas won a bronze in the Barrel -aged Strong Beer.
  • Belgian Waffle Hammer from Barrel Oak Brewery in Delaplane won a bronze in the Barrel Aged Belgian Quad.
  • Lucky Rabbit Barrel Aged Irish Red Ale from Barrel Oak Brewery in Delaplane won a silver in Red Wine Barrel Aged.
  • Cream Ale from 2 Silos Brewing Co. in Manassas won a silver in Speciality Beer/Anything Goes.
  • Crispy Whip from Benchtop Brewing Company in Norfolk won a bronze medal in Zwickelbier/Kellerbierr.
