FAIRFAX, VA — Every dog has its day. Today is that day.

Thursday is International Dog Day. To help celebrate the event, Patch asked readers in Fairfax to share photos of their precious pups for our special dog-day photo gallery.

It was only fair to reach out to dog owners for the holiday since we extended the same invitation to cat owners to celebrate International Cat Day on Aug. 6.

Rescued from North Carolina three years ago, Kirby can often be found curled up in a resident’s lap, or sitting beside them watching TV.

His owner, Sandy Steeves, is the director of Memory Care at The Providence, and she works with Kirby to help residents open up about what may be bothering them, relax when adjusting to their new living situation, or lift their mood through a walk.
