A 38-year-old man from Woodbridge said he was walking into his house when he was confronted by Ayala, a person he knows, Prince William County Police said.

After making threats, the suspect went to his car and returned with a machete and chased the victim, who was holding a 3-year-old in his arms.

The victim ran inside the house and closed the door while the suspect drove away. He returned later to threaten the victim again, then left.

Police officers caught up with the suspect while he was having a drink at a Liberia Avenue restaurant and arrested him.

Medina Ayala is being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court in September.
