CENTREVILLE, VA — One driver died and another was critically injured in a Centreville car crash on Tuesday morning, the Fairfax County Police Department said.

Authorities identified the deceased driver as Sohail Iqbal, a 30-year-old man from Manassas. Another driver, who police officials have not identified, suffered life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of Lee Highway and Clifton Road in Centreville. Investigators believe a 2013 BMW M3 was driving southbound on Stringfellow Road as it approached Route 29.

The BMW then crashed into a 2012 Hyundai Sonata that was driving southbound on Route 29, authorities said. The collision caused the Hyundai to travel across the intersection and onto an embankment before crashing into the concrete foundation of a utility pole.

The driver of the Hyundai, who police later identified as Iqbal, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the BMW was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
