ALEXANDRIA, VA — On Friday, Visit Alexandria announced its takeout-focused Alexandria Restaurant Week To-Go will be extended through Labor Day, Sept. 7. The summer restaurant week started on Aug. 21 and was originally scheduled to end on Aug. 30. Over 50 restaurants will continue to offer specials during the extended event.

Due to the pandemic, restaurants are switching from the usual dine-in specials to offer $49 takeout dinner for two. There's quite the variety of specials, from three-course meals with desserts, to packages with a bottle of wine, and cocktail add-ons. Some restaurants may offer delivery in addition to takeout or curbside pickup options.

Visit Alexandria changed the format due to preferences of some diners to enjoy restaurant food at home. The event is timely as locally-owned restaurants look for support to weather financial hardships during the pandemic. Alexandria Restaurant Week has been held by Visit Alexandria since 2009 in the summer and winter, showcasing the city's diverse dining scene.
