ALEXANDRIA, VA — Amid Alexandria's month-long George Washington Birthday Celebration, the highlight is the returning George Washington Birthday Parade on Monday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Old Town.

The parade and other festivities are hosted by Alexandria's George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee. This year's parade will celebrate the city's 275 anniversary with a theme of "George Washington: Alexandria’s Original Living Legend." The Living Legends of Alexandria will be honorary grand marshals of the parade.

"We are excited to recognize George Washington’s special connection to his adopted hometown of Alexandria in the city’s 275th Anniversary Year, as well as the contributions of the Living Legends who followed him," said Sue Johnson, the George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee's parade director.

The parade route returns to east of Washington Street after taking a special route last year for the George Washington Masonic National Memorial 100th anniversary. The route begins at S. Fairfax and Gibbon Streets, heads north on Fairfax Street, turns left on Queen Street and left on N. Royal Street. The parade continues down Royal Street to Wilkes Street.
