Restaurants & Bars

Happy hour, date night or just hanging out with friends...

Why should La Fromagerie Cheese & Wine Bistro on 1222 King Street be your "go to" Friday (or Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday)...

My wife and I have lived in Old Town for three years and ever since we walked into La Fromagerie the first time we felt like we found our restaurant. Of course, Old Town Alexandria have some wonderful places to eat and believe me I have tried almost all of them. However, the people, wine, cheese and of course the food have us coming back … a bunch.

Sebastien, chef and owner is always in the kitchen executing on his ever changing seasonal menu; Dylan is the cheese monger and as many people say is an artist with a charcuterie board; Ben is super knowledgeable and can help you with wine in any direction you want to go; sparkling, whites, reds, blends and don’t get me started on the regions; Stephanie and Milton are some of the best people around and enjoy the conversations before we even get started ordering.

Yes, the food is great; the portions are perfect and starting the evening with a charcuterie board, few sharables and then a nice entrée … don’t forget a few glasses of wine, well it makes for a perfect dinner. My dinner normally includes Sebastien’s hanger steak with vegetables (spring, summer, fall or winter) depends on the season, he also make an excellent rice or faro risotto, as well handmade pastas.

Happy hour is a great way to start your experience at La Fromagerie as they offer $5 house wines, beers and many shareables. However, please do not just stop with the happy hour as you would be missing out on some of the best food in Old Town Alexandria. Don’t just take my word for it, Northern Virginia Magazine 2018 top restaurants; La Fromagerie was ranked 10th … in all of NOVA.

I actually hesitated to write this article because La Fromagerie only has about fifteen tables and eight seats at the bar and don’t take reservations, so it will be a really sad Friday evening if I can’t get in; however, the food, people and atmosphere is so good that I am willing to wait. La Fromagerie is an example of a wonderful local restaurant. You see some of the same people all the time; I can only assume many within Old Town agree with me.

One last thing to add, you can purchase bottles of wine to go and their prices are fantastic; Ben please forget I wrote that as I don’t want to see any increase on your wine prices.
