Urbano 116's Chef Alam Méndez Florián, who hails from Mexico City, has not worked on brunch offerings before opening the restaurant in Alexandria. Nevertheless, he's developed his take on brunch, like his favorite dish, de gallina, or hen soup with peppermint, cilantro, chayote, potatoes, carrots green beans. "It’s the perfect cure for any ailments," he says.

Open since January, the restaurant is Méndez Florián's first in the United States. Originally from Mexico City, he studied at the Culinary Institute of Mexico in Puebla and apprenticed under Chef Angel Vazquez at Intro. He went on to work at Michelin star restaurants like Noma Mexico, Fabes and Arzak. In 2016, he opened Mexico City's Pasillo de Humo, which became a local favorite and international dining destination. He teamed up with Common Plate Hospitality after meeting in Mexico City and developed a vision for Urbano 116 in Alexandria.
