Damaging Winds In VA, DC: 55 MPH Gusts Possible Monday

VIRGINIA — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook and a wind advisory for most of Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., on Monday.

Expect winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph until 5 p.m. Monday, according to the weather service.

"Damaging winds will continue to be possible through the day today before subsiding later tonight," the Baltimore-DC office of the National Weather Service said. "Mostly sunny skies are expected with highs in the 40s for the mountains with 50s across the lower elevations."

A wind advisory is in place until 5 p.m. for these areas: the District of Columbia, Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park, Reston, Herndon, Annandale, Centreville, Chantilly, McLean, Franconia, Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, Warrenton, Purcellville, Leesburg, Ashburn, Sterling, Haymarket, Dale City, Manassas, Woodbridge, and Lake Ridge.

A hazardous weather outlook is also in place Monday for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia.

The week ahead warms up with highs soaring into the upper 60s and 70s Tuesday through Friday. But a mix of cold and warm air systems late in the week could brew storms.

"Heavy rain and robust thunderstorms are projected to develop ahead of the boundary, soaking areas from Oklahoma to the Southeast coast from Thursday to Friday evening," Accuweather said.

Here's the seven-day Northern Virginia forecast from the National Weather Service:

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 54. Windy, with a northwest wind 24 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph.

Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 40. West wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 68. West wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 42. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Light west wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 47.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 54.

Friday: A chance of rain after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Friday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday: A chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 63. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 47.
