VIENNA, VA — Vienna's Club Phoenix Teen Council is continuing its support of U.S. military troops with a new donation drive to provide care packages.

The Teen Council, part of the Club Phoenix Teen Center serving teens from 6th to 12th grade, is working with the organization HeroBox on a donation drive benefiting U.S. armed forces deployed across the world. Through March 7, the Teen Center is collecting donations from the community to send overseas to military troops.

"Club Phoenix supported our troops overseas by writing 'A Million Thanks' letters during the holiday season," said Ianna Alhambra, the town’s after school program coordinator. "We wanted to continue supporting them, so we teamed up with HeroBox, an organization that helps troops year-round."

The Teen Council, which has nine Vienna teens in 7th to 12th grade, is aiming to fill at lease 20 medium size USPS care packages for 20 military personnel. Each care package will have 15 to 20 items. The Teen Center will pack and schedule the care packages for pickup after the donation drive ends on March 7.

Items the Teen Center is seeking for the donation drive are new socks and undershirts, non-perishable food items like beef jerky, canned tuna, or dried fruit, hygiene items like body wipes, hand sanitizer and sunscreen and other supplies like pens, books or journals.
