Shooting Involving Machine Gun Leads To Gang Member's Sentence

TRIANGLE, VA — A man affiliated with the Bloods gang was sentenced Thursday to 28 years in prison for his role in a shooting involving a machine gun in Triangle, Prince William County's Commonwealth's Attorney said.

Sean Hughes had been convicted by a jury in February of shooting into an occupied dwelling, shooting from a vehicle, attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, gang participation, gang recruitment, and use of a machine gun for an aggressive purpose.

According to the Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney, Hughes and a juvenile co-defendant opened fire on a home in Triangle on April 19, 2023. A woman inside was struck multiple times, while a detective and bystander outside were nearly struck.

Hughes and the juvenile fled the scene but were arrested in Maryland. Authorities found one of the guns used in the shooting, according to prosecutors.

According to Inside Nova, one of the defendants sent threatening messages on the same day to another woman living in the home where the shooting occurred. A detective had been on the scene to talk to the woman when the shooting happened.
