Heavy House Fire In Woodbridge Injures Firefighter, Resident; 4 Displaced

Prince William County Fire and Rescue said a smoke detector potentially prevented deaths from the heavy fire.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A heavy fire at a townhouse injured a firefighter and resident Tuesday night in Woodbridge, according to Prince William County Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters responded around 10:39 p.m. to a townhouse in the 1900 block of Old Post Terrace. Due to heavy fire and smoke, the fire department requested a second alarm.

A smoke detector alerted a resident to the fire, and both residents inside safely escaped. One resident was taken to a medical facility for a non-life-threatening injury. A firefighter was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Three townhouses were determined to be unsafe to occupy due to damages. Two of the homes had fire damage, and one had water damage. Four residents were displaced. Two of the residents are getting Red Cross assistance.

The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.

According to the fire department, a smoke detector may have prevented fatalities from the heavy house fire. Officials say a smoke detector gives residents time to safely escape.
